Announcing the implementation of another “green” initiative

Utilizing award-winning, proven technology, Nieman Printing will now be able to reduce the amount of blanket wash and cleaning solvents we purchase and the amount of waste those products produce. One of the main benefits from this process is reduced VOC generation and emission status. This new equipment is yet another cornerstone for Nieman Priting as we strive to be an environmentally responsible printing facility.

Typically, one drum of virgin blanket wash used on the press results in about two drums of waste that must be disposed of.  By recycling that used blanket wash, we will be able to capture nearly all of the solvent to reuse resulting in  a 95% reduction of chemical waste!

This new, off-press automated technology uses a multi-stage vacuum distillation process that separates blanket wash into its components at lower than normal evaporation temperatures. Any waste residues are self-contained within the unit, distilled water can be sent down the drain and the reclaimed solvent is ready to go back onto press with the addition of a recharge agent.

The 23rd Annual Printing & Imaging Association of MidAmerica Graphex Awards recognized Nieman Printing of Dallas, Texas with 58 separate awards this year – including Best of Show Silver and the John Brodnax Judges Choice Award.

Top honors were received for two pieces Nieman printed for fashion clients: Best of Show Silver was awarded for the “Dickies 2012 Fall Look Book” and the John Brodnax Judges Choice Award was presented for the “J. Hilburn Fall Preview” piece – deemed one of the more unique and interesting entries in the competition.

“The J. Hilburn piece was beautifully done.” said Graphex Judge Michael Klyn. “The midtones, the highlights - it’s all there.”

In addition, Nieman Printing was awarded Best of Division 3 for the Dickies piece and received 11 Best of Category Awards and 44 Awards of Excellence for other pieces entered in the competition.

Graphex is an annual awards competition promoting print excellence. Consisting of four divisions and over 80 categories each, it provides a wide spectrum of opportunities for printers of all types and sizes to participate.  To ensure unbiased results, entries are judged by top graphic arts and print experts who are commissioned from outside the Association. After carefully critiquing the hundreds of entries, the judges’ final decisions are announced and presented at galas in Dallas and Kansas City, where entries are displayed in gallery settings.

Nearly 250 printing industry professionals attended the Dallas event, which was held at the Renaissance Hotel on April 25, 2012, with the Kansas City Graphex Gala slated for May 10 at the Madrid Theatre
